The Republican: “Viewing booths dropped from video store proposal”

The Republican reports that Capital Video has filed a new building permit for 135 King Street. The new plan does not include private porn viewing booths. Building Commissioner Anthony L. Patillo says the new application is currently under review in his office. Parking issues remain a concern.

Senior Land Use Planner Carolyn S. Misch said she believes Capital will still have to come before the Planning Board for a special permit.

NoPornNorthampton looks forward to reviewing Capital Video’s new proposal in detail next week. It’s quite possible that we will avoid asking for any regulation of adult bookstores (as opposed to peep shows and adult theaters). Some bookstores might be good for the area. Some might be neutral. Some might be bad. The proposed store might call for a judgment best made by the owner of the property, rather than be regulated by a blanket law. We hope the owner of 135 King Street keeps the health of the surrounding community in mind.
