The proposed store is less than 250 feet from homes, in clear violation of Berlin ordinance and common sense.
V.I.P. general manager Gary Porter has acknowledged that the store will not be an asset to its surroundings: “We’ll be helping the community, maybe not Berlin, but surrounding
communities,” Porter joked to The Herald (New Britain, CT), “community service is what we’re
all about.”
NO V.I.P. joins NoPornNorthampton and Keep Johns Creek Safe as grassroots blogs dedicated to preserving the quality of life in local communities. New media like the Internet help ordinary citizens collect and share strategies, laws and data, giving them a fighting chance against the porn merchants, their PR fronts and their well-paid lawyers. The web makes citizens less dependent on traditional media, which have sometimes failed their readers by coddling the pornographers.
