Capital Video Proceeds with Porn Shop Plans

After waiting for some weeks, Capital Video yesterday filed an application with Northampton for site-plan approval for its porn shop at 135 King Street. This plan will likely be reviewed at the public meeting of the Northampton Planning Board on October 12. The Gazette and The Republican both report on this development today.

The Gazette notes that Feminist Action Mobilization will “continue protesting the company’s plans Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:30 in front of 135 King St. through September…. ‘We see it from a feminist perspective,’ said city resident Karen Bercovici, who was protesting outide the vacant storefront last week. ‘We see the damage that pornography does to women and children. It’s connected to violence. This is just against the progressive values that we think Northampton holds dear.'”

According to The Republican, “Although the Planning Board does not have the authority to regulate the use of the building, it can ask Capital for more information on topics such as traffic before granting site plan approval.”
