‘Through the Flame’ Online Forums Support People Recovering from Porn Addiction

Through the Flame is doing great work helping people overcome porn addiction. They kindly sent us this article about their activities…

ThroughtheFlame.org is a free, online support group created for people affected by pornography. It is a growing community that aims to help people addicted to pornography or those living with someone who is. We aim to help people who have decided that they would like to get porn out of their lives and keep it that way.

We created our website with the understanding that the majority of porn addiction sites on the Internet have a religious inclination. While we feel that there is nothing wrong with this, we also felt that there are many more people out there who are not being reached because of this association. Our goal is to reach as many people as possible, and to help them live a full and happy life. The focus of this site is on healing, recovery and support. Through the Flame strives to be a place for restoration and support for those who are weary, and a safe haven and community.

Our site has seen a range of users young and old, male and female, from very different walks of life. Some are sufferers of porn addiction, others are loved ones of those with the addiction, but they all acknowledge that porn is harming their lives and the lives of those around them.

For many, porn addiction creates an environment of shame and isolation, but through the anonymous nature of the site, members have been able to find strength by speaking up about issues they had previously been battling on their own. Post after post, new members emerge with the courage to confront their addictions and share their honest stories with other members. We see the transformation and triumphs of those who are given a second chance to restart their lives and mend relationships with those who they lost to porn.

This is not a spectator site. Members are actively involved in supporting their fellow peers in the recovery process. People who were once strangers now meet daily on ThroughtheFlame.org to update others on their progress as well as seek and give advice when needed. Even in the relatively short time the site has been operating, we have witnessed broken families becoming whole, relationships being restored and people being healed.

These changes did not happen overnight, which is why members have become invested not only in their own progress, but also in the progress of others. We all root for each other. Some of the posts have brought us to tears.

Many people may argue that pornography does not qualify as a classic addiction, like those to alcohol or drugs, but read the stories of a few of our members and you may soon change your mind.
