Gail Dines to Speak on Intimacy, Identity and Sex(ism) in Pornographic Culture April 3
On Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. in Stirn Auditorium at Amherst College, there will be a media presentation by Dr. Gail Dines, professor of sociology at Wheelock College. Dines uses examples of mainstream pornography, magazines, television shows and movies to explore how masculinity and femininity are shaped by a consumer-driven, image-based culture and the ways in which public images spill over into private worlds. The presentation is brought to you as part of Healthy Relationships Week and is sponsored by the AAS, Student Activities, WAGS, the Social Council, the Program Board, the President's Office, the Gender Collaborative and Health Education.

Gail Dines is Professor of Sociology and Women's Studies at Wheelock College in Boston. For 20 years she has lectured across the country against pornography and sexist portrayals of women. The institute is taught by Dr. Gail Dines, author of Pornography: The Production and Consumption of Inequality, and Dr. Diane Levin, author of the forthcoming So Sexy So Soon...
